08.11.2012 MEP Tatjana Zdanoka presented her report about EU Agency for Fundamental Rights on LIBE meeting
I invite you to support my report concerning a Multiannual Framework for 2013-2017 for the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights. We had discussions with shadows, also during the LIBE meeting, and came to the conclusion that we are not satisfied with the Council's amendments, but we have to give our reluctant concern, since FRA has to be operational also after January 1, even if with the mandate less ambitious than we wanted.
On the other hand, the UK has declared in the Council that this State wants to use parliamentary scrutiny. It could mean that the Parliament does not agree to adopt the mandate formally for several months. I would therefore suggest our strategy as follows:
- we do adopt my report in LIBE today;
- if we have good news from the Council, we request a debate in the plenary before the vote
- in order to get the Council's statement on the formal adoption as soon as possible;
- if we don't have any progress, we postpone the plenary vote, and request the Council's statement in the plenary in December - with a debate and possibly with a resolution.
Thank you for your support!
